Electronic Voice Phenomenon: Paranormal Tool or Movie Hype?

Electronic voice phenomenon is the overnight celebrity of the paranormal field. Made popular to the public eye by the movie “White Noise” but was it represented properly. The short quick answer is no, however short quick answers are not what your-paranormal-guide.com is all about.

I’m dedicated to providing you the most accurate and reliable information on the paranormal, in this case EVP. The movie “White Noise” presents itself with a very entertaining Hollywood unrealistic view on EVP and because of that the general public is given the wrong impression. Truth is that these so called paranormal films are all Hollywood hype.

What is Electronic Voice Phenomenon?

Electronic voice phenomenon is the disembodied voice left on an audio recording device (rarely a video camera) heard upon later playback. These disembodied evp’s are not always clear and easily heard, most often than not they are low like a whisper and usually found amongst the other chatter. Paranormal investigators use audio editing software to “draw out” and clarify the evp in order to try and decipher it.

It is important to note that this audio editing software cannot add sounds to the recording only clarify the already recorded sounds. Electronic voice phenomenon is a tool that paranormal investigators use to attempt to communicate with spirits. This communication method is not instantaneous nor is it a seyonce of any kind; investigators generally wait until the end of the investigation to review the recordings.

Basic EVP Method

There are many methods of recording electronic voice phenomenon; here I will only speak on the most common method. The common method for recording EVP includes but is not specifically limited to:

  • Setting a voice recording device to record.

  • Identifying yourself and the investigation date and time.

  • Asking questions to the “alleged spirit” giving proper time for a reply.

  • NOTE: Try not to whisper or talk too loudly as you don’t want to corrupt any of your evidence.

  • NOTE: Acknowledge any sound made by your team on the recording for future reference.

  • This is the most common method of all EVP recordings taken by investigators worldwide. It is to note there are many additions to this method expanding and modifying it to suit your investigative procedure. These expansions and additions are but not limited to:

  • Asking the spirit to influence other equipment.

  • Table tipping (not a recommended practice).

  • Using white noise generators.

  • Speaking native language and or using period explicit jargon

  • Paranormal Tool or Hollywood Movie Hype?

So the question remains, is electronic voice phenomenon a paranormal tool or just Hollywood movie hype? The answer is: true EVP is a paranormal tool and is used by virtually every investigation team out there. However Hollywood, as it has before, blew the EVP procedure well out of proportions.

In “White Noise” Michael Keaton captures the voice and image of his dead wife in the “snow” static on TV. This then exposes an elaborate demonic death plan that stalks him. His wife in which shows him death’s plan in the form of images of people in trouble and in immediate danger of death in the chance he might save their lives.

    Debunking “White Noise”

Let us now debunk the events of that movie with the knowledge we have of the paranormal. As afore mentioned he captures his wife’s voice and image in a recording from the static on TV. Ok capturing a voice is the embodiment of EVP but that is where the truth ends.

The use of a television and capture of images are simply not electronic voice phenomenon. If these were a part of the method it would known as “Electronic Voice and Image Phenomenon ”. Anything you see in television snow is considered matrixing.

The movie continues by explaining that his dead wife is exposing a demonic death plan. The truth is the dead often are unaware of their living impairment and even that are aware of that fact would not know of other peoples impending deaths. Spirits are, as popular theory states, more often than not bound to the specific location they haunt and are unable to leave it.

Hollywood always refers to paranormal activity with demons and malicious spirits. That is for the “terror factor” and to boost sales. Truth be told demons and malicious spirits are extremely rare occurrences and though they can be dangerous it is not believed they can kill you.

Electronic voice phenomenon, paranormal tool or Hollywood hype? The answer is paranormal tool used widely by professional investigators worldwide. EVP is just another victim of Hollywood’s undeniable embellishment of the paranormal.
